Undergraduate Students of Department of Biology Attended the ASCB 2016 Annual Meeting and Gave Poster Presentations

The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) 2016 Annual Meeting was held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA, USA, on December 3-7, 2016. More than 5000 scientists in the field of cell biology attended the meeting. ACSB annual meeting aims to advancing scientific discovery, improving education, promoting professional development, and increasing diversity in the scientific workforce. Two Year 4-students from the Department of Biology, Boyi Hu and Ling Jiang, attended the meeting and had poster presentations. Boyi is working on mitochondria dynamics and functions during cytokinesis, Ling is working on the regulation function of nuclear pore complex protein NPP-2 in the cell cycle, under the supervision of Dr. Yu Chung Tse.

During the meeting, a lot of experts in the field of cell biology made cordial and friendly conversations with the students of our department. The results achieved by the students and showed in the poster received many attentions and praises from the attendees of the meeting.

The American Society for Cell Biology was first organized at an ad hoc meeting in the office of Keith R. Porter at Rockefeller University on May 28, 1960 and was legally incorporated in New York State on July 31, 1961. ASCB membership has grown to 9,000 worldwide (with 25% of ASCB members working outside the United States). Annual meetings now draw upwards of 5,000 people. ASCB annual meetings highlight the latest research, techniques, products, and services, providing a venue for networking and career advice, offering research-tested educational approaches for high school teachers and professors who teach undergraduates, and spurs future discovery and collaboration.
