I got my bachelor degree in 2010 from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and graduated from Tsinghua University with PhD degree in 2015. I have worked as postdoctoral researcher at Tsinghua University and Princeton University from 2015 to 2018. During my graduate and postdoctoral training, I have published many first or corresponding author papers in high impact journals, including Science (2018), Cell (2017), Cell (2016), Cell Research (2016), Cell Research (2015). I joined the Department of Biology, SUSTech as an associate professor in 2019.
Xi did his BSc in Experimental Medicine in Peking University Health Science Centre in Beijing, where he became interested in all the techniques used in biochemistry and molecular biology. After graduation, he joined Prof. Andrew Sharrocks’ lab at the University of Manchester as a PhD student, studying the DNA binding specificity of different Forkhead transcription factors. During this period, he discovered an evolutionarily conserved transcription factor complex that regulates G2/M cell cycle transition. After his PhD, he joined Dr. Sarah Teichmann’s group at the European Bioinformatics Institute as a postdoc to carry out single cell genomics research. In 2016, the Teichmann team moved to the Wellcome Sanger Institute. Xi moved with together with the group and became a Senior Staff Scientist. Xi has joined the Department of Biology in SUSTech as an Assistant Professor since 2019.
Dr. Ji obtained his Doctor of Science degree (equivalent to Ph.D.) from Peking University in 2003. He then visited Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Cornell University Weill Medical College for postdoctoral training and research. Dr. Ji has mainly focused on developmental neurobiology. He is primarily interested in elucidating mechanisms regulating neuronal development by different signal pathways including retrograde signals derived from target tissues of axon. He also made progresses on studying the roles of local protein synthesis in axons and mRNA modification during neuronal development.
